It Begins!

6:34pm

Crowds now here. On way back from gym this morning, found self making way up stream of people flooding the streets and sidewalks on as they surged toward the Lincoln Memorial for the We Are One concert. INSANE!! Droves of people, traffic directors, police officers, army vehicles, and tow trucks EVERYWHERE. Felt as though everyone were heading toward some massive Noah's Arc. All the way up M Street the setting was the same. Crowds and crowds of excited people all heading in one direction.

As I walked back from work this evening, I found myself in the same situation, still walking in the opposite direction of everyone, for now everyone was returning from the concert. This must only be a taste of what is to come tomorrow and Tuesday. Am immensely excited.

The streets are already teeming with people selling various Obama-related artifacts: flags, magnets, pajamas, shirts, pins, hats, stickers, buttons, scarves, etc... Also, am seeing many more Obama stickers and other forms of graffiti celebrating the occasion. Know Shepard Fairey is back in DC, and have seen some of his work popping up, but others are now at work too. The things that are happening here- socially, psychologically, legally, historically, artistically, and economically, are making for very, very interesting conditions.

Caroline was at the concert, and says it was really amazing. We'll both watch the two-hour recap of it at 7:00. Feel somewhat bad for not being able to be there, but know that would not have been able to find a replacement at work, and had a blast there anyway, as got to ice cupcakes all afternoon and make presidential inauguration seals between sets. Yay!! Also, there were two new flavors today: chocolate banana pudding (banana cupcake with banana pudding filling and whipped chocolate ganache icing) and peanut butter chocolate fudge (chocolate cupcake with chocolate fudge filling and peanutbutter cream cheese icing). Cannot wait to try the latter tonight. Mmmm.

Everything in the shop was buzzing. The Today Show will be in the shop tomorrow morning, and GTC has been providing cupcakes for exclusive parties all weekend. They even delivered cupcakes for celebrities' turn-down services at the Ritz Carlton on Friday night. Sophie and Katherine's mother is here (she's so nice!!), and everyone is working hard to keep all under control despite the extra orders and special patriotic fondant decorations. It's so fun to see everyone this excited. Aaaaah! Things are happening!
