Have just received news that brother has joined ranks of an Alaskan fishing crew, and will be out on the high seas catching fish. How very adventuresome! Think that he will have marvelous adventure of it all, in manner of Master and Commander or some other high seas action film. Minus injury and death, of course, as crew is not likely to be fighting pirates or even militant pro-whale activists from Animal Planet.

Feel quite conflicted about militant anti-whaling activists, as am self-righteous vegetarian in support of animal protection, but also feel that antagonizing whaling ships in Antarctica and then complaining about retaliation is embarrassingly childish. Perhaps childishness is only emphasized in previews for the show, and rest of show actually consists of substantive dialogue between opposing parties. God, hope so, or else whales are done for.

Have found YouTube video of Alaskan fishing ships. Perhaps fishing in Alaska is not as exciting / romantic as had previously envisioned, but nonetheless think is great adventure, and wish brother all the best.

Perhaps, because he will be so far from land, he will be able to see astounding number of stars at night. Ah, and must be amazing feeling to be miles and miles from civilization, surrounded by water as far as eye can see. And to be away from American society for bit... that indeed must be very nice, as economy is falling to bits and everyone is stressmongering.

Oooh. Wish him the very best. Hope he has marvelous time, and comes back with lots of great stories, but no residual fish smell. Am sure Dr. Bronner's soap can get rid of it, at any rate.
