Headband Mystery: SOLVED

Aha! Mystery of the headbands-with-bows SOLVED! This morning, my room mate Caroline pointed out that headbands of that style are worn by the character Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. Season one launched in 2007, so looks like this trend took a while to catch on, at least in DC, but my goodness, there is so much out there about Blair's silly headbands!

Etsy crafters, for example, have made and sold reproductions of what's seen on the show.


And there are also online tutorials for those who want to create their own reproductions.


Looks like at least some of Blair's headbands are Jennifer Behr. She's got a lot of cool stuff, for sure, but who decided that her hair accessories were cool? Sure, the Gossip Girl series costume and wardrobe department makes the choices, but their choices must be based on something else, right?

What makes people like Matthew Simonelli (assistant costume designer and shopper for the show ) decide a certain piece of clothing is appropriate? Where does he turn to find the newest emerging trends? If he was the one responsible for the headband move, where did he first see them used?

Also, what took DC college students so long to start liking these headbands? I mean, people were blogging about the trends as early as June 2008 , so it has been floating around for quite a while. Am I just late on all this? Probably. I only watch Gossip Girl when I'm inconsolable and sleep deprived, and I make an effort to avoid that state. Hahaa.
